Gill Eastgate, company director of corporate uniform supplier NKD Clothing, has spoken out over the sudden collapse of airline Flyglobespan, and told of the impact the news will have on smaller businesses.
NKD Clothing was due to supply the airline’s new uniforms, and will be out of pocket by several hundred pounds as a result of the collapse.
‘We’ve had to call all our suppliers this morning and apologise, because after all their efforts we now won’t be able to place orders – this includes mock-ups and samples of badges, bespoke scarves and ties – all of which we’ll be billed for.
‘The sudden collapse of the business is, of course, sad and worrying news, and our thoughts are with staff at Flyglobespan, with whom we have built a great working relationship to date.
‘We are extremely disappointed and there is no getting away from the fact that as a small business we will really feel the effect of losing this contract – apart from anything else we were so proud of our designs. The team at Flyglobespan were going to benefit from a stylish new look.
‘All in all, this news is pretty demoralising. Flyglobespan was our biggest contract win in 2009 and was worth around £80,000. It was our first contract within the airline industry.’
NKD won the contract to design and supply Flyglobespan’s crew and pilot uniforms in July 2009 – a contract worth in the region of £80k. The contract went to tender after the airline's previous supplier went into administration. Following several presentations, NKD was commissioned to supply everything from pilot braided suiting to name badges and lanyards.
NKD already has uniforms in place at Flyglobespan’s head office at Colinton to the value of around £1,000.
